Werndee offers cottage accommodation in the grounds of a Federation mansion in Mount Stuart, Hobart. Mount Stuart is a five-minute drive from Hobart’s central business district.
The self-contained, modern cottage is located among the gardens of Werndee, an historic Hobart house built in the early 20th century. The apartment sleeps up to three people in a queen bedroom, with the option of a fold out bed in the spacious livingroom for a third person, and has a fully equipped kitchen. Guests are invited to pick their own herbs and citrus fruit from the garden that has been established on an old basketball court.
Werndee is a short walk to North Hobart restaurants, cafes and bars. You can browse through art galleries or visit the art house State Cinema – Tasmania’s oldest operating movie house. Take the five-minute drive into central Hobart, visit the Saturday Salamanca Market, drive to the summit of Mount Wellington or cruise on the Derwent River.
Built in 1903 for the first Tasmanian premier, Sir Neil Elliott Lewis, Werndee remained in his family for nearly 50 years. Now a private home, it has been restored using fine Tasmanian timbers.
