Waldheim Cabins

The Waldheim Cabins offer a wilderness accommodation experience within the Cradle Mountain National Park. Cradle Mountain is located at the northern end of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The Park is a two-hour drive from Launceston (144 kilometres) and an hour-and-a-half from Devonport (83 kilometres).
The eight cabins are located behind Waldheim Chalet, the home built by pioneer Gustav Weindorfer in 1909, now a museum commemorating his life. The cabins accommodate between four and eight guests in single bunk beds; guests should provide their own bedding. Each cabin has cooking facilities and there is a gas, electric or wood heater. Two amenities blocks, each with showers and toilets, are nearby.
Cradle Mountain is the starting point for the Overland Track, a 65-kilometre walk through the Park to Lake St Clair in the south. You can do a number of short walks close to your cabin including the Weindorfer’s Forest Walk, which begins at the Waldheim Chalet, or the two-hour Dove Lake loop track. For a greater challenge there is the walk to Marion’s Lookout or the summit of Cradle Mountain. At dusk, you can watch for grazing wallabies and wombats on the open plains.
