Quality Hotel Colonial – Attraction

Quality Hotel Colonial, offering accommodation, restaurants, and function rooms, Launceston’s most intriguing heritage-listed building.
No building in Launceston has had more historic connections or vivid contrasts than The Colonial. The foundation stone was laid in 1847 with the building constructed to house the Launceston Church Grammar School, and in 1972 was carefully reconstructed as the tourism complex it is today.
Visitors are welcome to wander into the building where you will see the ‘Old Boys’ names carved into cedar doors and architraves in the main building which housed classrooms and the boarding house. Convict bricks can be found in the walls of the hotel’s restaurant Three Steps on George which was the school’s gymnasium.
The hotel and conference centre is open for viewing during the hours of 0700 and 2300 everyday and serves breakfast in the Old Grammar Chapel (now the QC Brasserie) and dinner in the Old Grammar Gymnasium (now Three Steps on George Restaurant).
Situated in Launceston CBD and close to all tourist attractions, sporting venues, shops, cafes and the City Park, The Colonial offers various styles of accommodation and is an ideal place to stay, dine in the restaurants, or be immersed in the history of Launceston.
