Ida Bay Railway & Café

The Ida Bay Railway is the last operating bush “tramway” in Tasmania

Ride 14km in a WWII era locomotive on Australia’s most southern railway. Round trip takes 2 hours, Start at Lune Lune River station, then travel through bush land abundant with bird life and wild flowers to the end of the line at Deep Hole and Elliott’s Beach . Enjoy the beautiful scenery of button grass plains, white sandy beaches and the banks of Ida Bay and Lune River Estuary.

At Elliott’s Beach there’s a shelter with Barbecue facilities, picnic tables, chair and toilets. Enjoy some time at the beach with a picnic or barbecue and catch a later train back to the station. Before or after your trip, visit the Ida Bay Railway Cafe and enjoy a selection of hot and cold food or drinks. Barbecue meat packs are available at the Cafe.

Allow two hours for the train trip.
