Hargate is a unique heritage listed property, with commanding views up the Tamar Valley.
Hargate was designed and built as a grand townhome by Mr Joseph Humphreys in 1900 in the Queen Ann Federation style. Joseph was an architect, building foreman, town alderman and silent partner of Tasmania’s most renowned builders of the time, J & T Gunn.
We have three beautiful guest rooms, each offering a view of the city and the river. Each room is spacious and private, guests can access the balcony from their rooms and enjoy the view. There are three bathrooms, two with deep luxurious claw-foot baths.
A house of enormous character and charm, it’s perfect for romantic getaways, touring groups, history buffs or just those who appreciate a fine residence and garden. Staying at Hargate is an experience that will bring to life the history and contemporary qualities of Launceston and Tasmania. Hargate’s history is documented in frames up the magnificent staircase.
Guests can gather in the grand lounge room around an open fire, dine in the formal dining room as well as enjoy the functional and light filled kitchen/breakfast room.
Hargate stays cool in summer and cosy in winter due to hydronic heating.
