Being an island state, the ocean is very significant to all Tasmanians.
The Maritime Museum of Tasmania explores the influence of the sea on all those living on the island through research, interpretation and presentation.
Inside the museum you will find displays on the watercraft used by Aborigines and early European explorers and whalers and discover the art of shipbuilding.
Check out the collection of ship models, artefacts, paintings and images.
And read stories about Tasmanian migrants and their efforts on reaching the island.
The sea can be a dangerous place, there’s plenty of amazing stories and insights to be discovered here!
The Museum is open everyday, except Christmas Day, from 9am-5pm.
