The Old Avalon Theatre Indoor Market is in one of Tasmania’s most prestigious period buildings. This market is housed in a beautiful grand building, located within a stone’s throw of bustling central Hobart, providing great exposure to everyday shoppers and passing traffic alike. Steeped in history, this spacious building is the perfect place to provide a multitude of items from local craft makers, general venders and retailers. The Avalon is a permanent weekend market, undercover, rain or shine.
Up to 12 diverse casual and permanent stalls present a wide range of Tasmanian arts and crafts, convict-heritage cards, books and bonnets, Antarctic and Australian native soft toys, souvenirs; embroidery, action figures, games, furniture, pottery, gifts, large range of up-recycled items, good food as well as tea and coffee – all in a relaxing and friendly environment where you can marvel at the historic indoor architecture of this beautiful heritage building where thousands of Hobartians once enjoyed early and epic 20th century cinema, earlier as a Temperance Hall. Constructed in 1896, a theatre cinema before being converted to interesting retail showroom. “Gone with the Wind” was the last movie shown at the Avalon theatre in the 1980’s.
