Steele’s Island Accommodation is a beach homestead and cottages at Carlton, in Tasmania’s south.
Steele’s Island is a small, privately-owned island, surrounded by sandy shores, easily accessible by car via a causeway. It is located at the mouth of the Carlton River and overlooks Carlton Beach. The accommodation consists of a large beachfront homestead with facilities ideal for group holidays, weddings and other events, as well as two cosy self-contained beach cottages.
The seven-bedroom homestead can accommodate groups of up to 20. There is a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen, laundry and each of the bedrooms has an ensuite. The large, open-plan living area has a heated slate floor and a raised open fireplace. Other facilities include an 11 person spa, eight person sauna and a games room. There is an outdoor barbecue and a large sheltered front veranda overlooking the water. Activities onsite include tennis, mini golf, sand volleyball, beach cricket, kayaking, and island and beach walks.
The two-bedroom cottages have a double bed and two sets of bunks, sleeping six. The cottages can be hired individually, as a pair, or in conjunction with the homestead for the larger groups.
Carlton is 40 minutes’ drive (41 kilometres/26 miles) east of Hobart.
